The world is a gigantic, beautiful, unbelievable place, filled with endless opportunities and possibilities. Who better to experience it with than the love of your life and partner-in-crime?! No matter how close you and your partner may be, however, life on the road can be hard work. This is our Travel Couple Survival Guide, with all the best tips for surviving your next adventure (without strangling anyone..).

Since we quit our jobs four months ago, we have both spent more nights in a tiny, 3-man tent that we have with a solid roof over our heads. These close (and sometimes very smelly) quarters have taught us more than a thing or two about what it takes to get along as a nomadic couple.

Personal Time is Essential

With long, boring travel days ahead, the need to zone out and enjoy your “me-time” is very important. Don’t be afraid to take some time out from chatting and listen to your favorite podcast, read a book or listen to your own music.

Communication is Key

With so many incredible activities lined up, it is only natural to differ on what you think would be best to do first. Talking with your partner and agreeing on what adventures you will be doing is much better than staying silent and not enjoying yourself. It’s all about compromise!

Be Patient

Spending this much time with anyone can become draining so it is important to remain patient and understanding with your partner. Remember you are on the same team, support each other (and most importantly), don’t let the “hanger” get to you!

Push Each Other

Strive to bring out the best in your partner at all times. Push each other to leave your comfort zone and try something amazing. With each other to rely on, it is much easier to put yourself out there, knowing that someone is fighting your corner.

Enjoy a Cheap date night

Don’t get sucked into the trap of thinking every date has to be an expensive one. It is often the case on foreign shores, that the more expensive restaurants are tourist traps. This removes any hint of authenticity that the meal will have!

The cheaper the place the more authentic it tends to be, as this is where the locals will eat. Plus, cheap date nights mean you can afford a night out almost every night!

Go with the Flow

Set out on your adventure with open arms and open minds, ready to say yes to every opportunity. Since there are two of you, you will always have someone in your corner ready to back you up, so don’t be afraid to try something crazy.

Our European adventure has been turned upside down, inside out, sewn together again and then shredded so many times I can’t remember what the original plan was! However, it is this spontaneity` that makes an adventure!

Cherish These Memories

Without a doubt, the best part of traveling with your life-partner is the fact that these memories are now yours forever! Cherish them and hold them, dear, ready to tell the epics tales for decades to come.

Make sure you take plenty of pictures. Get creative with your partner and make memories to last.

Remember to Relax

As full-time adventurers and travel bloggers, it is easy to become wrapped up in your work. After all, it is a hobby and a job! It is important to remember to take time off of this work and enjoy the little moments like breakfast in a foreign café, or watching the sunset over the ocean.

So with these tips under your belt, get out there and explore! Make memories that will last a lifetime, and celebrate your love in every culture imaginable. The world is ours to explore and it’s our duty to do just that!
